留学生居留许可：三十日内办理与延期

持 X1 签证来华、学习时间超过 180 日的留学生，落地后还有一件必须办的事：在入境之日起三十日内申请外国人居留证件。之后每次延期、每次校外实习，也都要回到同一个窗口。

三十日时限：持注明入境后需要办理居留证件的签证，应自入境之日起三十日内向拟居留地县级以上地方人民政府公安机关出入境管理机构申请。

三十日这个窗口很容易被开学季冲掉。报到、体检、办手机卡、开银行账户挤在一起，等到想起来去办居留证件，时间可能已经过半。稳妥的做法是入境后第一周就去预约，把体检和住宿登记凭证先拿到手。

住宿登记凭证是很多人卡住的地方。住校内的由学校统一登记，住校外民宿或租房的，要在入住后按规定办理住宿登记，办居留证件时通常要出示这份凭证。

居留证件办下来之后，护照换发、住址变动、学校或居留事由变化，都属于登记事项变更，需要在变更之日起十日内办理变更手续。毕业前如果要留华工作，还要把学习类居留转为工作类居留，最好在证件到期前两三个月就开始准备。

Student Residence Permit in China: 30 Days, Extensions and Endorsements

Students who arrive on an X1 visa for a course longer than 180 days have one more task after landing: apply for a foreigner's residence permit within 30 days of entry. Every later extension, and every off-campus internship, goes back to the same office.

The 30-day rule: if your visa states that a residence permit must be obtained after entry, apply within 30 days of entry at the exit-entry administration of the public security organ at or above the county level where you will reside.
Documents: passport and visa, the university's admission letter or enrolment certificate, the JW201 or JW202 form, medical examination records, your accommodation registration slip and photographs. Lists vary slightly by school and city.
Validity: non-work residence permits run from 180 days to five years. Study permits are usually issued to match the programme; short language courses generally match the actual study period.
Extensions: apply at least 30 days before the permit expires and submit proof of enrolment. Extensions are granted when the reason is reasonable and sufficient; if not granted, you must leave before the permit expires.

The 30-day window is easily lost in the first weeks of term. Registration, the medical check, a phone plan and a bank account all compete for the same days, and by the time you remember the residence permit, half the window may be gone. The safe approach is to book an appointment in your first week and get the medical check and accommodation registration slip in hand early.

The accommodation registration slip is where many students get stuck. If you live on campus the school registers you; if you rent or stay in a guesthouse off campus, you must complete accommodation registration after moving in, and the slip is normally required for the permit application.

Once the permit is issued, a renewed passport, a new address, a change of school or a change in the purpose of residence all count as changes to registered items, and must be reported within 10 days. If you plan to stay and work after graduation, the student permit has to be converted to a work-type permit, so start preparing two or three months before it expires.
