经常往返中国的人，通常希望办一张多次入境签证。要理解它，先分清三个概念：入境有效期、入境次数和停留期限。
- 三个概念：入境有效期是签证可入境的时间范围；入境次数是在有效期内可以入境的次数；停留期限是每次入境后被准许停留的时限，自入境次日开始计算。
- 有效期长短：据中国驻外使领馆的常见问答，中国签证的入境有效期一般为 3 个月；是否签发多次入境、以及有效期多长，由领事官员根据申请人的具体情况决定，常见有 6 个月、1 年、2 年乃至更长的多年多次签证，并按对等安排执行。
- 每次停留天数：每次入境可停留的天数以签证上注明的停留期限为准，常见为 30 天、60 天、90 天等，自入境次日开始计算；停留时间不得超过签证注明的停留期限。
- 申请条件：一般需要有效护照、签证申请表与照片，并按访问事由提供邀请函或行程材料。是否给予多次入境，同样由领事官员根据申请人情况决定，频繁往返的商务、探亲旅客更有理由申请。
- 费用：签证规费按国别与对等安排执行，此外还可能涉及签证申请服务中心服务费、加急费等；具体金额以受理的签证申请服务中心或使领馆公布的收费表为准。
- 不能更改：签证一经批准，入境次数和停留期不能更改。如行程变化导致次数或停留期不够，只能重新申请并再次缴费。
- 申请时机：建议提前 1 个月递交申请，但不得早于 3 个月，以免签证在出发前就已过期失效。
- 与单次签证的取舍：单次签证适合一次性行程；一年内多次往返、或需要临时改期的旅客，多次入境签证更省事，但要准备更充分的行程与邀请材料。
入境次数用尽即失效：入境次数用完，签证即失效；即使次数还没用完，只要入境有效期已过，签证同样失效，需要重新申请。
延期提醒：中国驻外使领馆不办理签证延期手续。入境后如因故无法按原定计划出境，应在停留期满前到所在地公安机关出入境管理部门办理延期手续。

China Multiple-Entry Visa: Validity, Duration of Stay and Eligibility
Anyone who travels to China often will want a multiple-entry visa. To understand it, first separate three ideas: validity, number of entries, and duration of stay.
- Three terms: validity is the period during which the visa may be used to enter; number of entries is how many times you may enter within that validity; duration of stay is how long you may stay on each entry, counted from the day after arrival.
- How long validity lasts: according to Chinese embassy and consulate FAQs, China visa validity is generally about three months. Whether a multiple-entry visa is issued, and for how long, is decided by the consular officer based on the applicant's circumstances; six-month, one-year, two-year and longer multi-year visas are common and follow reciprocity arrangements.
- Days per stay: the stay allowed on each entry is the duration stated on the visa, commonly 30, 60 or 90 days, counted from the day after arrival. You must not stay longer than the stated duration.
- Eligibility: you generally need a valid passport, an application form and a photo, plus an invitation letter or travel itinerary matching the purpose of the visit. Whether multiple entries are granted is likewise decided by the consular officer; frequent business or family visitors have a stronger case.
- Fees: visa fees follow nationality and reciprocity arrangements, and a visa application service centre fee or express fee may also apply. The exact amount is set out in the fee schedule published by the centre or embassy handling your application.
- No changes after approval: once approved, the number of entries and the duration of stay cannot be changed. If your plans change and the entries or stay are insufficient, you must reapply and pay again.
- When to apply: apply about one month in advance, but no earlier than three months, so the visa does not expire before you depart.
- Multiple vs single entry: a single-entry visa suits a one-off trip; for repeated trips within a year, or when dates may change, a multiple-entry visa is more convenient, but it calls for fuller itinerary and invitation documents.
The visa expires when entries run out: once the number of entries is used up, the visa becomes invalid; and even with entries remaining, it becomes invalid once the validity period ends, so a new application is needed.
Extension reminder: Chinese embassies and consulates abroad do not handle visa extensions. If you cannot leave as planned, apply for an extension at the local public security exit-entry administration before your permitted stay expires.
