也可以通过“留学中国”网站(studyinchina.cscse.edu.cn)的线上申请程序提交申请。

Studying in China: A Complete Guide from Choosing a School to Enrolment
Studying in China usually starts with choosing a university and an application channel, followed by preparing documents, submitting the application and waiting for review. Once admitted, you apply for a student visa and, after arrival, complete registration and residence formalities. This guide walks through the whole process.
- Basic eligibility: Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid passport, in good health, with no criminal record, and must obey Chinese laws, respect Chinese customs and follow school rules during their studies. In principle, students should be at least 18 years old on enrolment; applicants under 18 whose parents do not normally reside in China must appoint a foreigner or Chinese citizen who normally resides in China as their guardian and provide supporting documents.
- Application channels: The main routes are self-funded application (directly to a Chinese university or through an agency), government exchange programmes, inter-university exchange, Chinese universities' own scholarship admission programmes, and group recommendation. You can also apply through the online application process of the Study in China website (studyinchina.cscse.edu.cn).
- Programmes available: Degree programmes (bachelor's, master's and doctoral) and non-degree programmes (language courses, preparatory courses, study-tour courses and summer courses). Applicants can select eligible courses in the system.
- Academic requirements: For undergraduate study, applicants generally need qualifications equivalent to Chinese senior secondary school graduation and must pass the university's entrance examination or assessment. For master's programmes, a bachelor's degree or equivalent is required, along with recommendations from two people at associate-professor level or above. Doctoral programmes require a master's degree and similar recommendations.
- Language requirements: For Chinese-taught programmes, an HSK score is generally required; applicants for Chinese language training or preparatory courses are generally exempt. For English-taught programmes, IELTS or TOEFL scores are generally required; native English speakers are generally exempt.
- Application documents: The China study application form; a copy or scan of your passport; academic qualification certificates and transcripts; HSK scores (or IELTS/TOEFL for English-taught programmes); two recommendation letters for master's and doctoral applicants; a personal study or research plan (required by some institutions or programmes); and the Foreigner Physical Examination Record. Self-funded applicants also need proof of financial support, and applicants under 18 need proof of a guardian in China. Documents must be in Chinese or English, or accompanied by a translation.
- Timeline: You can generally apply for programmes starting this year or next year. Review takes about 2 to 4 weeks for non-degree courses and about 4 to 8 weeks for degree programmes, depending on the institution; some institutions may require a registration fee before making an admission decision.
- Visa: Once admitted, apply for a student visa (X1 or X2) at the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country with the admission notice issued by the university and related documents (such as the JW201/JW202 form). The exact visa category and required documents are determined by the embassy or consulate.
- After arrival: Complete registration, the physical examination, insurance and residence permit procedures as arranged by your university. Holders of an X1 visa generally need to apply for a study-type residence permit; the exact deadline is set by the exit-entry administration of the public security authority.
Application deadlines, language requirements, tuition and scholarship policies vary considerably between universities. Choose your target institution and programme first, then prepare documents according to what that university's international student office publishes. Applying through the Study in China website lets you select schools, complete forms and upload documents online.
On funding, besides the Chinese Government Scholarship there are also the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, local government scholarships and university scholarships. Their application channels, benefits and deadlines differ, so each must be checked separately; one does not substitute for another.
The above is general guidance only. For specific requirements and the latest rules, please refer to official announcements.
