Libo Xiaoqikong Travel Guide: Tickets, Transport and Best Season

Libo Xiaoqikong lies in Libo County, Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. It is one of the core scenic areas of the Zhangjiang Scenic Area, named after a seven-arch stone bridge built in 1836 during the reign of the Daoguang Emperor, and is known for its emerald streams, cascading waterfalls and karst forest, earning it the nickname 'the emerald of the earth'. It was designated a national scenic area in 1994, inscribed as part of the South China Karst World Natural Heritage site in 2007, and rated a national 5A-level scenic area in 2015.

  • What it is: the scenic area covers about 46.4 square kilometres. Within a gorge roughly 19 kilometres long and only 1.5 kilometres wide, it combines mountains, water, caves, forest, waterfalls, lakes and rock formations. Highlights include the ancient Xiaoqikong bridge, the 68-tier cascading waterfall, the Laya Waterfall, the Duangiao flying waterfall, the Water Forest, the Cuigu Waterfall, Wolong Pond, Yuanyang Lake and Tianzhong Cave. The round trip inside the scenic area is about 45 kilometres, of which the Xiaoqikong round trip is about 39 kilometres; the 1.6-kilometre section from the ancient bridge to the Rock Forest is a walking-only zone.
  • How to get there: the usual route is to fly or travel first to Guiyang, then take the Guiyang-Nanning high-speed railway from Guiyang North Station to Libo Station, a journey of about one hour. From the station, transfer to a scenic-area shuttle bus or a public bus, which takes about 25 minutes. You can also take a direct tourist shuttle from Libo county town to the east or west gate. Exact schedules and fares are subject to what local transport authorities and the scenic area publish.
  • Tickets and opening hours: tickets are priced by season. In the peak season (1 March to 30 November) a full-price ticket is about 120 yuan per person, and in the low season (1 December to the end of the following February) about 100 yuan. The shuttle bus ticket is about 40 yuan per person year-round. There is also a combined ticket covering Xiaoqikong, Daqikong and the shuttle bus. The scenic area uses real-name online booking with timed entry slots, tickets are valid for two days, and re-entry requires facial recognition. Entry is generally from 8:00 to 16:00; under the official notice of May 2026, entry began at 8:00, ticket sales stopped at 16:00 and entry closed at 16:30. Check the notice issued on the day of your visit.
  • Booking channels: independent travellers can book through the 'Libo Xiaoqikong Ticketing Official Website' WeChat account, the 'Yima You Guizhou' mini programme, and authorised OTA platforms; travel agencies book through the Qianyuntong digital tourism platform. If online booking is unsuccessful, tickets can be handled at the on-site ticket windows. The scenic area enquiry line is 0854-3516116 and the rescue line is 0854-3516118.
  • Best season: Libo has an average annual temperature of about 18 degrees Celsius, forest coverage of more than 92 per cent and high negative ion levels in the air. From late spring to autumn (April to October) water volumes are high and the waterfalls and streams look their best. Summer is the wet season but also the flood season, when some sections may require wading after rain, so bring rain gear and non-slip shoes. In winter there is less water, but fewer visitors and lower ticket prices.
  • Payment and practical tips: the scenic area uses real-name booking, and entry requires an ID card scan or facial recognition, so carry your passport and identity documents with you. Online booking generally requires document details, so travellers holding passports should confirm in advance through official channels whether online booking is available and, if necessary, handle it at the on-site windows. Mobile payment is accepted inside the scenic area, but it is sensible to carry a small amount of cash. Drones are banned throughout the area and pets are not allowed. Walking distances are long and some sections are slippery, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
  • Frequently asked questions from foreign visitors: (1) Do I need a Chinese ID card? Booking and entry are real-name, and while mainland Chinese visitors use ID cards, travellers holding passports normally need to exchange a paper ticket at the special-documents window. (2) Does the ticket include the shuttle bus? The ticket and shuttle bus are priced separately, with the shuttle bus at about 40 yuan per person; visitors taller than 1.2 metres must buy a shuttle bus ticket and scenic area insurance. (3) Are there discounts? Admission is free for those aged 14 and under and 60 and over on presentation of documents, and half price for students aged 15 to under 18 and full-time undergraduates and below; visitors eligible for concessions must verify their documents at the ticket window. (4) Do I need to book ahead? The scenic area uses timed real-name booking, so book in advance through official channels and confirm the latest entry times before travelling. (5) Is there English-language service? Signage is mainly in Chinese, so prepare a translation tool or offline map in advance.

Xiaoqikong and Daqikong, which also forms part of the Zhangjiang Scenic Area, can usually be combined in one trip. However, which spots are open may be adjusted according to the weather, and during the flood season some sections or experience activities may be suspended, so check the scenic area's latest notices before setting out.

The ticket prices, opening hours and transport information above are subject to what the scenic area and local transport authorities publish.
