外国人来华免签不止一种。单方面免签、互免签证协定、过境免签、区域性入境免签和海南免签，适用对象、停留天数与活动范围各不相同，出发前按护照类型和行程对号入座最稳妥。
- 单方面免签：由中国单方面给予，对方国家不一定对等回馈。截至2026年2月，适用国家共50个（欧洲35个、亚洲7个、美洲6个、大洋洲2个），持普通护照因商务、旅游、探亲访友、交流访问或过境来华，停留不超过30天，停留期自入境次日零时起算。
- 互免签证协定：中国已与158个国家和地区签署此类双边协定，但多数只对外交、公务类护照免签；对普通护照全面互免的国家数量有限，停留期多为30天或每180天累计不超过90天，需按具体协定逐条核对。
- 过境免签：分两档。24小时过境免签面向所有国家、适用全部对外开放口岸，条件是持前往第三国（地区）的联程客票且不离开口岸限定区域；240小时（10天）过境免签适用57个国家，可从24个省（区、市）的65个对外开放口岸入境，在规定区域内停留不超过10天。
- 区域性入境免签：包括海南61国30天免签、外国旅游团乘坐邮轮入境15天免签、东盟国家旅游团入境云南西双版纳和广西桂林各6天、港澳地区外国旅游团入境广东10市和海南各6天，都限定了活动范围与入出境口岸。
- 海南免签：61个国家人员持普通护照，因旅游、商贸、访问、探亲、就医、会展、体育竞技等短期事由（工作、学习事由除外）可免办签证入境海南，停留不超过30天，活动范围为海南省行政区域。
- 怎么选：先看护照类型（普通还是公务），再看是否需要前往第三国（是否属于过境），最后看行程是否限定在某一片区域（海南、邮轮团、东盟团）。三条都对不上，就需要事先办签证。
五类政策的共同点是“免办签证”，区别在于谁给的、给谁、能待多久、能去哪儿。单方面免签和互免协定解决的是“入境”这一关，过境免签解决的是“路过”，区域性免签解决的是“只去某一片区域”。
最容易混淆的有两处。一是“停留30天”不等于“签证有效期30天”，停留期从入境次日零时起算；二是过境免签要求联程客票的目的地是第三国（地区），往返同一个国家的行程不适用这条。
政策会调整，国家名单和口岸名单也会变。出发前请以使领馆和国家移民管理局的最新公告为准，并把离境机票、住宿订单等材料随身备好，入境时可能被要求出示。

China's Visa-Free Policies Explained: The Categories and Who They Cover
Visa-free entry to China is not a single policy. Unilateral visa exemption, mutual visa exemption agreements, transit without visa, regional visa-free entry and the Hainan scheme each cover different passport holders, allow different lengths of stay and restrict travel to different areas. Match your passport type and itinerary against the right one before you fly.
- Unilateral visa exemption: granted by China alone, with no reciprocal treatment required. As of February 2026 the scheme covers 50 countries (35 in Europe, 7 in Asia, 6 in the Americas, 2 in Oceania). Ordinary passport holders may enter visa-free for business, tourism, visiting relatives or friends, exchange visits or transit for up to 30 days, counted from 00:00 on the day after entry.
- Mutual visa exemption agreements: China has signed 158 such bilateral agreements, but most cover only diplomatic and service passports. Only a limited number grant visa-free travel on ordinary passports, usually for 30 days or 90 days within any 180-day period, so each agreement has to be checked on its own terms.
- Transit without visa: two tiers. The 24-hour rule applies to all nationalities at every open port, provided you hold a connecting ticket to a third country or region and stay inside the port's restricted area. The 240-hour (10-day) rule covers 57 countries and is available at 65 open ports across 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, with stay limited to the designated areas.
- Regional visa-free entry: the 30-day Hainan scheme for 61 countries, the 15-day scheme for foreign tour groups arriving by cruise ship, 6-day schemes for ASEAN tour groups entering Xishuangbanna in Yunnan and Guilin in Guangxi, and 6-day schemes for foreign tour groups from Hong Kong and Macao entering ten Guangdong cities or Hainan. Each has fixed entry and exit ports and a defined area of travel.
- Hainan visa-free entry: nationals of 61 countries holding ordinary passports may enter Hainan without a visa for tourism, business, visits, family visits, medical treatment, exhibitions and sports events for up to 30 days. Work and study are excluded, and travel is limited to Hainan Province.
- How to choose: start with your passport type (ordinary or official), then ask whether you are travelling onward to a third country (transit), and finally whether your trip stays inside one region (Hainan, a cruise group, an ASEAN tour group). If none of the three fits, you need a visa in advance.
All five share one feature: no visa is needed. They differ in who grants the exemption, who benefits, how long you may stay and where you may go. Unilateral and mutual exemptions settle the question of entry, transit rules settle the question of passing through, and regional schemes settle the question of staying inside one area.
Two points cause most confusion. First, a 30-day stay is not the same as a 30-day visa: the clock starts at 00:00 on the day after entry. Second, transit without visa requires an onward ticket to a third country or region, so a round trip back to the same country does not qualify.
Policies and country lists are revised from time to time. Check the latest announcements from the Chinese embassy or consulate and the National Immigration Administration before departure, and keep your onward ticket and hotel bookings with you, as they may be requested at the border.
